God’s Mosaic

God's Mosaic

The lectionary recently took us to 1 Corinthians 12.  Inspired by that passage, for several Sundays worship at CHBC focused on becoming God’s mosaic as a community of faith.  Though the CHBC community is made up of many different people from many different places, when we bring our gifts and talents together to serve others and God, we create a beautiful mosaic.  To help us better see that when we work together in harmony something beautiful is created, Corinne Holt created a mosaic comprised of photos of faces of the CHBC family.  Thank you Corinne.

Through CHBC, people designated their donations to various groups such as EDGE Outreach and the Baptist World Alliance to help Haiti’s earthquake victims.  Thank you CHBC for opening your hearts to those in need.

“ASsK ME! Who is Aung San Suu Kyi?,” a program created and organized by CHBC youth to raise awareness about human rights abuses in Burma, has been called a “model ministry” by the Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America (BPFNA).  The BPFNA defines model ministries as “programs and initiatives that are addressing peace and justice concerns in the communities served by these congregations.”  Check out the BPFNA reference to ASsK ME! as a model ministry at http://www.bpfna.org/mm.

In the wake of the horrific news of devestation and suffering resulting from the earthquake in Haiti, there are several ways to contribute desperately needed funds for relief. There are over 400 Baptist churches in Haiti, related the Baptist World Alliance (BWA). BWA, through its relief arm, BWAid, has dispatched its first responder disaster team from Hungary to Haiti.

The American Baptist Convention (ABC) and Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF) jointly sponsor a missionary couple, Steve and Nancy James, who operate a medical clinic outside Port-au-Prince.

In Louisville, EDGE Outreach has sent several teams of six persons to Haiti to set up nine water purification systems.

Donations may be made to any of these relief efforts through the church by designating on the check or on-line at the following websites.
