ASSOCIATE PASTOR TO CHILDREN

Position Description

 

The Associate Pastor to Children will plan, coordinate, and implement a full-fledged ministry with children at Crescent Hill Baptist Church, through personal effort, paid staff and dedicated volunteers.  This ministry with children shall be consistent with the “Statement of Philosophy for Ministry” with Children adopted by the congregation in March of 1997, and shall include the Church’s pastoral ministry with children and their families, as well as the Church’s afterschool and summer childcare programs.

 

 

Position Reports to:  The Pastor of Crescent Hill Baptist Church, in conjunction with the church’s Personnel Team.

 

Position Supervises:  Associate Director of Afterschool/Summer Program and other employees of the Afterschool/Summer Program, in conjunction with the church’s Personnel Team.

 

Budget Responsibilities: In cooperation with the Children’s Ministry Team and the Afterschool Team, develops an annual budget for children ministry activities and the Afterschool/Summer program.

 

 

Responsibiities: Can include but are not limited to:

A.    Develop a ministry with the children and the families of children within the church and community:

1.      Develop a positive relationship with children and families

2.      Recruit, train and nurture leadership to work with children (birth to 5th grade);

3.      Relate to the children as minister, friend, and adult;

4.      Participate in worship leadership; and

5.      Be an advocate for all children to the church and community

 

B.     Direct a child care program which meets all the requirements of the Cabinet for Children and Families, Licensing Division, Commonwealth of Kentucky;

1.      Develop facility plans, policies and procedures

2.      Provide health, safety and comfort of children

3.      Review and produce documents for registration of children, notification of parents, employment and instruction of staff members;

4.      Prepare, in consultation with Associate Director, basic schedule for both School-year and Summer Programs;

5.      Monitor rooms on a daily basis;

6.      Attend month meetings of the Aftershool Advisory Team, presenting progress reports, including monthly personnel reports, average enrollment for prior month, any significant events or factors that affect the program;

7.      Arrange for emergency drills (fire, severe weather, earthquake,etc)

8.      Maintain continuing education requirement issued by Cabinet for Health and Family Services

9.      Mediate immediate conflicts between staff members or between staff members and children.

 

C.     Personnel:

1.      Hire all caregivers and other staff members for the Afterschool/Summer Program

2.      Supervise personnel and design schedules of daily activities

3.      Evaluate job performances of staff members

4.      Provide training for staff members’

5.      Recruit substitutes and compile a list of names and phone numbers for use during the year

6.      Coordinate all volunteers, obtaining the necessary records for each

 

D.    Program Planning Promotion

1.      Oversee, review and approve the development of curriculum

2.      Promote and advertise the Afterschool/Summer Programs in the church and community to attain enrollment goals

3.      Serve as an advocate for the Afterschool/Summer Programs to the church, coordinating the use of space and equipment, presenting periodic reports to the church membership

 

 

E.     Management

1.      Approve time sheets for all staff

2.      Set fees and review fee reduction requests in conjunction with the Afterschool/Summer Programs Advisory Team

3.      Approve all purchases for the Afterschool/Summer Program

4.      Submit check requests to reimburse staff members for authorized purchases

5.      Submit a finance report to the Finance Team on a regular basis.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

A.    Must be 21 years of age;

B.     Must have at least two years experience n children’s work

C.     Must meet one or more of the following requirements:

§        Bachelor’s degree in early childhood development;

 

§        Master’s degree or a Bachelor’s degree in a field other than education or child development, plus twelve (12) clock hours of child development training;

 

§        A minimum of three years of verifiable full-time paid experience working directly with children in a :

 

§        School based program following Department of Education Guidelines;

 

§        An early childhood development program (Head Start); o

 

§        Licensed or certified child care.

 

D.    Preferred: Master of Divinity; MACE

E.     Must pass a criminal background check
